This week, we’re shining a spotlight on the incredible Kathryn Harbrecht! Kathryn has been an essential part of our team, serving as the “Parking Queen” at all our major events, which is a challenging task, but she handles it with ease. She oversees our parking volunteers, making sure everything runs smoothly. Beyond her parking expertise, Kathryn plays a key role on our Butterfly Ball Auction Committee, helping us raise crucial funds. We’re so grateful for her dedication, good humor, and wonderful spirit!
When she’s not volunteering, Kathryn loves to explore our trails, always on the lookout for something new to discover. She makes it a point to visit at least once a week, often choosing a different time of day to catch sight of unusual flowers, landscapes, or wildlife. Her curiosity and appreciation for the preserve’s beauty are truly inspiring!
Kathryn has a deep appreciation for the plants in the Woodland Garden, especially in the spring. She’s particularly fond of bloodroots and trout lilies. In late summer, she delights in the sight of passion flowers blooming in the front meadow. Early summer, she finds herself admiring the mulberry tree along Mahan Lane, while in the fall, she enjoys the beauty of the persimmon trees by the playground. Her favorite sighting is of bluebirds—every time she spots them, they make her feel so hopeful.
Kathryn shared, “I love volunteering at Creasey Mahan, because of the sense of community it provides. I love being with people who love nature as I do.” She also wanted to remind everyone that, “Creasey Mahan is a place to connect with people and nature. There are usually groups of people at the preserve, so you never feel alone or isolated, which I feel is comforting when I walk by myself in the woods.”
Thank you, Kathryn, for appreciating everything at Creasey Mahan and giving so much of yourself. Your willingness to volunteer and contribute your time is inspiring. We’re so grateful for your enthusiasm and commitment!
