Join Lee Payne Jr. and our Executive Director, Tavia Cathcart Brown, for a look at two of Kentucky’s most remarkable fall journeys. Each September, songbirds and raptors funnel through our region on their way south, filling the preserve’s skies and woodlands with activity. At the same time, monarch butterflies land in Kentucky to refuel along their journey to the mountains of central Mexico.

Lee will help participants spot and identify migrating birds overhead, while Tavia will point out butterflies, with a focus on monarchs. She’ll share stories about raising and tagging them and viewing millions at their overwintering sites. Kentucky is an important stopover for many species.

Wear comfortable shoes for walking on uneven ground. Difficulty is moderate.

We encourage you to bring binoculars (if you have a pair), a camera or smartphone, and plenty of curiosity.
