February 15, 10:00 a.m. –1:00 p.m.
FREE, in the Nature Center ($5 donations welcomed)
Refreshments available and great door prizes

The Great Backyard Bird Count is a free, fun, and easy event that engages birdwatchers of all ages. Anyone can take part in the Great Backyard Bird Count, from beginning birdwatchers to experts. Expert birders and members of the Louisville Audubon Society will help identify and count birds at the Nature Preserve. Our sightings will be added to a checklist, and this will be submitted online into a national database so the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society may learn more about the status of bird populations, and how to protect them and the environment we share.

Last year, across the nation, more than 180,000 participants submitted their bird observations, creating the largest instantaneous snapshot of global bird populations ever recorded.

The event at Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve will start inside the heated Nature Center. Kathy Dennis, President of the Louisville Audubon Society, will give a presentation on birds. Then, after a short break, birding expert, Barbara Woerner, will lead us on our bird count.

Please dress in layers and wear comfortable shoes. Bring binoculars and lunch, if you’d like. Great door prizes will be made available by the Louisville Audubon Society. We will feature FREE bird crafts for kids, too.
