Scout Volunteers

Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve maintains a highly fruitful partnership with the Eagle Scouts, run through Boy Scouts of America. It is due to the talents and dedication of many Eagle Scouts that the nature preserve can boast of bridges, trail signs, benches, picnic tables, and other “hardscaping” items.

Eagle Scout Projects

We honor the following individuals who recently have completed Eagle Scout projects on the nature preserve (in alphabetical order)—

Greg Billows from Troop 665 added natural-looking stairs built into the hillside leading to the Waterfall.

Adam Jones from Troop 30 built two benches for our “meditation area” near the Gingko memorial tree in honor of Jeff Jack at the end of Sunny Slope Trail.

Scout Frog Pond Sign

Marc Millard from Troop 665 designed and installed a very elegant new sign indicating the many species that can be found in the Frog Pond.

Luke Nolte from Troop 984 built two picnic tables for the preserve that can be found near the Mahan Branch Library and near the Maintenance Building.

Erik Rainey from Troop 30 built the three red-stained picnic tables that have been placed on Arboretum Trail, around the Fire Pit, and near the Baseball Field 1.

Scout Footbridge

William Schmidt from Troop 665 built a very high quality bridge for the new Hidden Springs trail that hasn’t yet officially been opened.

Michael Walton from Troop 984 created the new Yost Trail, which is a winding footpath near the southwestern portion of
the preserve.

Scout Dugout

Alex Wesley from Troop 984 impressed us all by building a handsome baseball dugout for Baseball Field 1!
